Bringing Luck to Your Space: Décor Tips for a Fortunate Home

With St. Patrick’s Day around the corner, I’ve got luck on the brain (and Guinness stew—but that’s a conversation for another time). I don’t know about you, but the past couple of years haven’t exactly felt the luckiest. So, for 2025, I’m doing what I can to set myself up for a little extra good fortune. While I may not be able to control luck itself, I can bring lucky energy into my space.

Incorporating lucky tricks and symbols into your home is an easy way to create balance, harmony, and a more positive atmosphere. When your surroundings feel uplifting, it’s easier to carry that energy into other areas of your life. In this blog, we’ll explore simple ways to invite luck into your home through lucky colors, meaningful symbols, feng shui, and rug placement techniques that enhance energy flow

Lucky Colors to Invite Prosperity

Whether or not you have a go-to lucky color, incorporating the right hues into your home can help invite good fortune. Keep reading to discover which colors symbolize prosperity, harmony, and positive energy—so you can bring the ones you need most into your space.

Green: Okay, I had to start with green since it’s the quintessential St. Patrick’s Day color, after all. But beyond that, green is a color that reminds me of nature—scenic hikes, grassy fields, and lush mountaintops. It symbolizes growth, prosperity, and renewal for these very reasons.

Consider adding a green rug or piece of furniture to your space. For example, one of my favorite rooms in my apartment is the sunroom, as it makes me feel relaxed and connected to nature, even on days when the weather isn’t ideal for leaving the house. In that room, I’ve got a cozy forest-green sofa and plenty of lush green plants to complete the look.

Red: Red is a powerful color that inspires clarity and invigoration. According to Feng Shui principles, red is also believed to protect a home by clearing the space and its residents of negative energy. Plus, it’s such a bold and energizing color—I’ve found that it makes me feel extra fired up to take on whatever challenges come my way.

A great way to incorporate red into your home is with a rug, which can center and infuse energy into a room. Alternatively, one of my friends has decorated her living room with several red accents. It’s a fun and bold way to add a pop of color without overwhelming the space.

Gold: If you're hoping for a little extra wealth to head your way—or if you'd like to pretend that it already has—then gold is the perfect way to bring luxury and good fortune into your home. Beyond symbolizing the riches associated with gold, this hue also adds warmth and happiness, brightening up any space.

When it comes to incorporating gold into your home, my personal favorite way is through metallic accents in furniture and décor. One of my friends (I know, I always talk about them, but I can't help it—their homes are just too cute!) has chosen to add gold accents in her kitchen. Her gold-rimmed bar cart pairs perfectly with her matching martini glasses, and I always feel so fancy when I visit. It’s the best feeling!

White and Neutrals: If you're someone who feels like colors aren’t your thing or if you prefer a cleaner, more effortless look, then this section is perfect for you. White and neutral tones can bring luck into your space by representing clarity and fresh beginnings. The simplicity of these colors ensures your space won’t feel overwhelmed, which, in turn, can help you feel the same way.

When it comes to incorporating white and neutral tones into your home, a great option is a linen couch. The soft, natural texture of linen brings a relaxed, serene vibe to any room, while the neutral color offers versatility without compromising on style. It’s a timeless piece that can pair beautifully with other decor items, like minimalist wooden accents or simple glassware, creating an effortlessly balanced and peaceful atmosphere.

Symbols of Luck for a Fortunate Home

Patterns and symbols are a great way to add fun, personality, and—of course—luck to your home. The best part? You get to decide how bold or subtle you want to go. If you’re all in, a wallpaper covered in horseshoes could be your statement piece! But if you prefer a more understated approach, an accent wall piece or a mandala rug might be more your style. Either way, keep reading to discover some lucky symbols and the positive energy they can bring to your space.

Four Leaf Clover: Obviously, the first symbol I have to mention is the four-leaf clover. With St. Paddy’s Day tomorrow, I’ve been seeing them everywhere! But four-leaf clovers aren’t just for the holiday—they can be a subtle yet meaningful addition to any space. Whether it’s a decorative print, a small trinket, or even a rug with a four-leaf clover design, this symbol represents luck and good fortune, making it a perfect way to bring positive energy into your home year-round. You could also incorporate it in the form of jewelry, like a necklace or a lucky keychain hanging by your front door for an extra touch of charm.

Elephant: Another lucky symbol, and one of my personal favorites, is the elephant (such powerful and adorable creatures). In many cultures, elephants are considered sacred animals, and when their trunks are up, they symbolize wisdom, protection, and stability. Even when their trunks are down, elephants still represent strength, purity, and vitality. Consider adding an elephant statue, art piece, or patterned throw to your home to invite a little extra luck and positive energy into your space in whatever way is most meaningful to you.

Horseshoe: The next symbol I’m bringing up is the horseshoe, which has become quite trendy in recent years. I’ve seen them everywhere—from necklaces to wall art to water bottle stickers! Historically, the crescent shape was believed to protect against evil, and once made of iron for horses, people began hanging them above doors with the ends facing up to attract good luck. You can bring this idea into your home by placing a horseshoe above your door or adding a horseshoe-themed accent like an accent pillow or display trinket for a subtle touch of luck.

Mandalas or Circular Patterns: Finally, if you're looking for a lucky symbol that's a bit more customizable or subtle than the others, consider incorporating a mandala or circular patterns into your space. Mandalas are all-encompassing symbols meant to represent the universe in its ideal form, symbolizing harmony, unity, and balance. They’re also believed to help you achieve the perfect self. You can find mandalas in various forms, whether as accent pieces, rugs, or in furniture design. The intricate, symmetrical patterns can help create a calming and centered atmosphere, promoting positive energy and a sense of tranquility in your home.

Rugs That Bring Balance and Harmony

Entrance Rugs for Welcoming Energy: First impressions matter! Whether you’re a guest or the homeowner, the first thing you see when entering a home can set the tone for the entire space. Having a rug in your entryway can help introduce good energy, creating a welcoming and positive atmosphere right from the start (especially if you incorporate some of the tips I’ve mentioned earlier). In many cultures, the entrance is considered the “gateway” to your home, and a rug can symbolize protection and abundance, helping to usher in good luck and positive vibes from the moment you enter the room.

Round Rugs for Flowing Energy: Similar to the mandala symbol, round rugs add a sense of flow and unity—both essential to feng shui. It’s believed that the lack of corners in a round rug prevents energy from becoming stagnant, allowing for a more natural and harmonious flow. Plus, the smooth edges and circular shape symbolize peace, making them perfect for creating a tranquil and welcoming environment. Add a mandala design in the center, and you’ll double the good vibes!

Soft & Cozy Rugs for Comfort: There is nothing that makes me feel better than being comfortable and cozy in my own home. Finding a space to relax and refresh is incredibly important in helping you feel better and brighter. A plush, soft rug not only adds warmth underfoot but also creates a sense of security and relaxation, making any room feel more inviting. Whether it’s a shaggy rug in your bedroom for a cozy morning routine or a thick, woven rug in the living room for curling up after a long day, these little touches help turn your home into a true sanctuary.

Using Feng Shui to Attract Good Energy

Positioning Furniture & Rugs Mindfully: One of the most crucial aspects of feng shui is the mindful arrangement of your home. To enhance flow and prevent disruption, consider placing your rugs and furniture in a way that keeps pathways clear and creates an inviting atmosphere from the moment you step through the door. For example, in a living room, placing a rug centrally beneath a seating arrangement—such as a sofa and chairs—helps anchor the space and encourage conversation. Avoid blocking doorways with furniture, as this can restrict energy flow and make a room feel closed off. Instead, opt for open layouts that promote movement and balance, making your home feel more harmonious and welcoming.

Placing a Rug Under the Dining Table: Placing a Rug Under the Dining Table: The dining room is a space of gathering, nourishment, and connection, so incorporating a rug can help ground the space and enhance its warmth. In feng shui, a well-placed rug under the dining table symbolizes stability and unity, encouraging harmony among those who share meals together. To maximize balance, choose a rug that extends at least 24 inches beyond the edges of the table so chairs remain on the rug, even when pulled out. A round rug under a circular table can enhance intimacy (and encourage flowing energy like we talked about earlier), while a rectangular rug under a long table reinforces structure and flow.

Using Earthy Materials: Incorporating natural, earthy materials into your home can create a grounding and peaceful atmosphere. In feng shui, elements like wood, jute, wool, and stone bring stability, warmth, and a sense of connection to nature. A jute or wool rug, for example, can add texture and comfort while reinforcing a feeling of balance. Wooden furniture and décor pieces further enhance this grounding energy, helping to create a space that feels both inviting and harmonious. Whether it’s a handwoven rug, a stone accent table, or rattan chairs, adding earthy materials is a simple way to bring luck and tranquility into your home.

Lucky Decor to Complete the Look

Now you’re basically an expert on what it takes to make your home as lucky as possible. Here are a few final tips and tricks to complete the look.

Plants for Positive Energy: I know I’ve already talked about plants, but they just do so much to enhance a space! They literally increase oxygen levels in your home, helping to reduce stress, benefit mood, enhance sleep, and more! If that’s not lucky enough for you, plants also play a huge role in feng shui principles for their representation of growth and prosperity.

For example, the money tree is one of the most well-known feng shui plants, symbolizing wealth and good fortune—just be sure to place it in the southeast corner of your home to maximize its energy. Similarly, lucky bamboo is believed to bring harmony and success, with different stalk arrangements holding unique meanings (three stalks for happiness, five for health, and eight for wealth). If you’re looking for something low-maintenance, jade plants (also called money plants) are another great option, as they’re thought to attract prosperity and long-term success. And of course, lavender is perfect for promoting relaxation and emotional balance…because what’s luckier than a home that brings you peace?

Mirrors to Reflect Good Fortune: Mirrors are a powerful tool in feng shui, as they reflect light and energy, helping to amplify positive vibes in your home. When placed correctly, they can create a sense of openness, attract abundance, and even symbolically double the good things in your life.

For instance, placing a mirror near your dining table is thought to enhance prosperity by reflecting nourishment and abundance. A well-positioned mirror can also brighten a dim space by bouncing natural light around the room, making it feel more vibrant and uplifting. However, be mindful of placement. Some feng shui purists believe that mirrors facing clutter can double the chaos, while mirrors directly across from doors can push energy right back out. Personally, I’m not sure I’m sold on that idea, since I love having a mirror across from my front door for last-minute outfit checks. But that’s the fun part of feng shui—these are just tips, and ultimately, it’s about what works best for you and your space.

Crystals for Prosperity: Crystals have long been used in feng shui and other practices to promote balance, healing, and positive energy. These natural gems are believed to carry their own unique vibrations that can help bring harmony to your space and even attract good fortune.

For example, amethyst is often used to promote calm and clarity, making it ideal for creating a peaceful environment in bedrooms or meditation spaces. Citrine is known as the “stone of abundance” and is believed to attract wealth and prosperity, which makes it perfect for placement in the southeast area of your home or business. Rose quartz, with its gentle energy, is associated with love and compassion, helping to foster a peaceful, nurturing atmosphere. If you’re looking for something to enhance energy flow, clear quartz can be placed anywhere in the home, as it’s said to amplify the energy of other crystals and promote overall balance. Or of course, you can get whatever crystal you think is prettiest or resonates best with your personality since that’s just as important!

Personal Touches for Personal Luck: At the end of the day, each of us has our own personal lucky symbols or items that give us a sense of comfort and confidence. For example, some sports players swear by a lucky pair of socks to boost their chances of success during a game. For me, it's the Ukrainian Montanka doll my babushka gave me—it’s meant to bring hope, healing, and unity. More than just a symbol of good luck, it serves as a personal reminder of my loved ones and their importance in my life, no matter the distance between us.

Your personal lucky items can be anything that holds sentimental value or that simply makes you feel good. It could be a piece of jewelry, a photo, or even a specific color or pattern that gives you a sense of calm or confidence. When you incorporate these personal touches into your space, you’re surrounding yourself with positive energy that speaks to your own sense of well-being and luck.

Conclusion

Whether you're drawn to the symbolism of lucky colors, protective charms, or the calming flow of feng shui, incorporating these elements into your home can help foster a sense of prosperity, harmony, and well-being. By thoughtfully selecting décor that resonates with your personal sense of luck, you're not only inviting good energy into your space but also creating an environment where you feel uplifted and empowered. Remember, luck isn't just about chance—it’s about setting yourself up for success and positivity. So, take a moment to reflect on the symbols and colors that resonate with you, and let them work their magic in your home. While the luck of St. Patrick’s Day will come and go, I hope that 2025 will be a year filled with extra luck, good fortune, and a space that supports all your dreams and ambitions.
